Getting Started

RTL Couch Surfer Trackpad allows you to control your Mac from your iPhone or iPad wirelessly. Follow these simple steps to get started:

  1. Download and install the macOS app on your Mac
  2. Download the iOS app on your iPhone or iPad from TestFlight or the App Store
  3. Open the macOS app and note the connection code displayed
  4. Open the iOS app and enter the connection code
  5. Grant the necessary accessibility permissions on macOS when prompted
  6. Start using your iOS device as a trackpad!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't my iOS device connecting to my Mac?

Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Check that the macOS app is running and that you've entered the correct connection code on your iOS device.

The cursor isn't moving. What should I do?

macOS requires accessibility permissions for apps to control the cursor. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and ensure RTL Couch Surfer Trackpad is enabled.

How do I perform right-click?

You can either use two fingers to tap on the trackpad, or enable the mouse buttons in the iOS app settings and tap the right button.

Can I use this over the internet?

Currently, RTL Couch Surfer Trackpad works only on local networks (same Wi-Fi). Both devices must be connected to the same network.

Is there a Windows version?

A Windows version is currently in development and will be available soon.

What gestures are supported?

The app supports standard trackpad gestures including:

  • One finger: Move cursor
  • Tap to click: Left-click
  • Two finger scroll: Scroll vertically and horizontally
  • Two finger tap: Right-click
  • Four finger swipe up: App Exposé (Mission Control)
  • Four finger swipe left/right: Switch between desktops

Troubleshooting

Connection Issues

If you're experiencing connection problems:

  • Verify both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network
  • Restart both the macOS and iOS apps
  • Check that your firewall isn't blocking the connection
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting to Wi-Fi on both devices

Performance Issues

If the trackpad feels laggy:

  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router for better signal strength
  • Close other apps that might be using network bandwidth
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router if the issue persists

Cursor Not Moving

  • Open System Settings on your Mac
  • Go to Privacy & Security > Accessibility
  • Make sure RTL Couch Surfer Trackpad is checked
  • If it's already checked, try unchecking and rechecking it
  • Restart the macOS app
